1) Value Engineering / Management - Module 1 & 2
(SAVE International)

Training Workshop - Comments

"Module 1 training is of value to all staff interested in improving value in their projects, products, standard or business processes. People enjoy the course and want to immediately apply what they have learned. MTO has saved over $100 Million on our projects since we launched our VE program in 1998."

Stephen Holmes, P.Eng, CVS, Senior Engineer,
Value Engineering, Ontario Ministry of Transportation

"This course teaches the participants how to utilize this methodology to determine the best value for money option for a particular challenge.

I found Module 1 to be an interesting and fast paced week. I see that VM/VE is an excellent tool which we will use this in the fire facility renewal project and larger construction projects."

Bob Aubin,
Fire Management Supervisor
Ministry of Natural Resources, Ontario

"Value Engineering has been taught at McGill University for 35 years. During this time over 200 projects have been done with companies. Project outcomes have consistently created innovative solutions, increased value and lowered cost.

The course is certified and recognized as Mod 1 of value engineering training. Lucie Parrot has been the instructor of this course since 1995. She has provided an excellent value engineering experience that has been very beneficial for the students, the projects and their sponsoring companies."

Vince Thomson
Werner Graupe Professor of Manufacturing Automation
McGill University

2) Functional Performance Specification

Functional Performance Specification is an extension to the VE Process that expresses client needs in terms of functions and constraints. An evaluation criteria including acceptance levels and flexibility are developed to describe the client needs.

"The development of a functional performance specification for our traffic volume information system helped to identify the needs for business process changes and identified processes that were non essential.

The use of two simple words "Why" and "How" when developing the FPS allowed us to focus on the needs of our stakeholders rather than their desires. The FPS provides a business with a document that not only identifies its business functions, but also justifies them."

Andrew Beal, P.Eng, Project Manager
Ministry of Transportation

"Functional Performance Specifications is one of the best tools I have worked with that bridges the communications and technical gaps between user and IT specialists."

Chris Chartrand
27 Software

"The functional analysis workshops, done for the design of the Montreal-Two Mountains Transit line, were a real success. The functional performance specification allowed us to question and re-define the functions of all systems on the train... an essential starting point for the project and an important reference document."

Lamia Orfali, Systems Engineer
Dominique Aglot, Manager RAMS
Bombardier - Transportation
